Heritage Project – Balearic Beat, Balearic Life and Music Without Boundaries..

Heritage is a collaborative project bringing together two generations and more than a lifetime of musical discoveries. The father and son duo is a true Ibiza story, tracking the evolution of the sound and spirit of the island. ‘El padre’ Alfredo, pioneering DJ of what has come to be known as Balearic beat, and ‘el hijo’ Jaime Fiorito who through the addition of his knowledge and passion has delivered an ever changing style and vision over the years.

Listing to Alfredo’s mixes you can’t help remember the significance it contains. Alfredo arguably kick-started the modern culture of dance music in Ibiza, and it’s amazing to see it quite literally moving through generations.

Fleeing his native Argentina aged 23, Alfredo ended up in Ibiza with his son Jaime born a year later. He dedicated himself both to his child and to various job roles including fashion designer, candlemaker, delivery man and barman. In1982, a friend asked him to try his hand at DJing, a move that would change the island and the music forever.

DJing a quiet night at Amnesia, his eclectic style drew the crowds finishing their disco partying at Ku Club (now Privilege). The night drew more and more crowds as the days went on, captured scenes never witnessed scenes before of wild and carefree fun in the sunrise, sunglasses on, dancing in the open air terrace that became the legend we know today. A diverse mixture of people from all backgrounds had never been seen under the same roof (or lack of roof). The common denominator that bound it all together - the music. Before the explosion of ‘House’ the set consisted of an diverse mix of analog music (Prince was the king), creating a totally raw, romantic, emotional, sexy eclecticism, which has, since then, eventually been lost.
The name of Alfedo’s parties spread throughout Europe and wider and it wasn’t long before word spread amongst the hoi polloi of the music and entertainment industry. with Grace Jones, George Michael or Boy George regularly partying there.

In 1988 the Ibiza sound was undergoing changes.. Alfredo started combining the first strains of Chicago and Detroit House into his sets. The crowd had converted into a multitude and was hailed as a phenomenon amongst music lovers. It was at this point that yet another key moment was to take place, when a group of then unknown English boys and amateur DJs landed in Ibiza and headed for Amnesia. Their names.. Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold and Nicky Holloway. So overwhelmed at what they saw and heard on the dance floor at Amnesia, they declared themselves total converts to the cause, and decided to give it a name and take it back to England. And so the legend that is the BALEARIC BEAT was born.

Having travelled the world, with residencies as far afield as Singapore, Alfredo remains a legend on the island and Alfredo and Jamie’s residency at We Love Space...Sundays on the sunset terrace is a pilgrimage to all Alfredo created.... Music without boundaries of time or genres.

POR SOLILLAS EXCLUSIVE RANGE FOR NASSAU BEACH CLUB

The summer season has commenced and we cannot contain our excitement about our latest piece of news … we have just launched an exclusive range of Solillas especially designed for the legendary Nassau Beach Club in Ibiza.

When we first visited Nassau Beach Club, we knew it was our kind of place … Nassau Beach Club epitomizes Ibiza beach cool and lives the luxury bohemian life Solillas was founded to share. And the Nassau Beach Club por Solillas design symbolizes the many elements of Ibiza’s rich lifestyle and draws on the creative talent of the Islands; designed in collaboration with Ibizan designer Marcos Torres, and handmade in the cobbled Menorcan town of Ferreries.

Solillas are recognized for their laidback comfort. The staff loved their specially designed Solillas, perfect for working in the restaurant, on the beach and long nights at the bar. In fact so much so much so that we released the collection for sale and designed an adorable Bébe range for little people with their own Balearic soul.

Set at the far end of Ibiza’s longest beach, the renowned Playa d’en Bossa, Nassau Beach Club sits in a tranquil spot overlooked by the unspoilt countryside of the Torre de Sal Rossa with views over the Natural Park of Ses Salines.

The all-in-one beach club, famed for having the waiter uniforms designed by Roberto Cavalli, continues to be a favourite of the jet set visiting Ibiza. Celebrity spots include Brad Pitt, Hugh Grant and Leonardo DiCaprio. Well how can they refuse when waiters will deliver dinner to their yachts?

Not just for the mega-rich: families, locals and luxury seekers alike come to enjoy the all-day-chill Nassau does so well.

Far from the crowds of the typical bars that can be found at the other end of Playa d’en Bossa, Nassau is tucked at the end, keeping its sophistication and style for those in the know. With its huge teak wood day beds it is the perfect place to relax whilst admiring the stunning landscape, crystal clear waters and soaking up the Balearic sun to the sound of hugely talented resident chill out DJs.  Summer 2012 sees resident DJ’s Andi Piper and DJ Ruben return with their lounge and deep house sounds.

The informal lounge provides the perfect hybrid from daytime beach to elegant evening with its Bali inspired interiors – huge wooden tables, shell chandeliers, comfy sofas and Buddhas keeping an eye on you. The cocktails are a work of art (check out the Pina Colada)! and the MediterrAsian menu provides the ideal beach food. There is even a Teppanyaki Lounge with some very stylish cooking displays!

Vibes flow in the lounge, bar and moonlit beach until 2am with special guest DJs and regular appearances from Ibiza legends Daisy Heartbreaker and Dave Phillips.

Check out the Nassau Beach Club’s 2012 video and you’ll see why we love it so much.

If you don’t make it to Ibiza this year, you can always purchase your own pair from our online shop – www.solillas.com

The Haçienda Returns At Space Ibiza

The Haç are back, to celebrate 30 years since legendary influential Manchester club The Haçienda opened back in 1982. On 9th June, hosted at Space in Ibiza The Haçienda returns to celebrate, headlining the party are a number of the original Haçienda legends who had such a huge influence on the worlds of house, techno, rave and acid: Kevin Saunderson, Marshall Jefferson, 808 State and original resident, Graeme Park.

The legend of Manchester music mogul Tony Wilson, Factory Records and The Hacienda is a short but spellbinding one that saw the birth of acid house, innumerate gigs with acts like Run DMC, Sonic Youth and Gil Scott Heron, resulting in the long-enduring club legend that is still so often talked about.

With its stunning light and sound,  and different rooms of Space and all the club’s own heritage, this is likely to be a night to justify the amazing Haçienda itself....
